Discovery VoIP Card - Cash in on the Advantages of the Discovery VoIP Card
Vodavi’s Discovery VoIP Card can significantly reduce your clients’ phone bills by decreasing the cost of making long-distance calls between remote offices. The Discovery VoIP Card seamlessly bridges voice communications over an IP network, such as an internal Local Area Network, the Internet or a Wide Area Network. This extends your clients’ office telephone systems to include remote offices that are connected to their IP network.
The Discovery VoIP Card maximizes communication capabilities by utilizing all telephony features, like call transfer, call conferencing, voice mail and interactive voice response (IVR). Plus, it uses the latest in voice-processing protocols and hardware technologies, which provide high-quality voice clarity. Advanced, VoIP technology will also help your clients get more value from their existing data connection by allowing them to reduce the number of CO or T1 lines currently installed by using the Internet to provide long-distance lines between offices. To reach coworkers, users simply dial an internal extension to call both local and remote offices, including telecommuters. The simplicity and tremendous cost savings results in increased and improved internal communications. By eliminating phone bill submissions between remote offices and headquarters, your clients’ accounting departments will have a greatly reduced expense report load, freeing them to concentrate on more pressing issues.
Express VoIP
Express VoIP installs in minutes making it the perfect IP telephony solution for your existing systems. Express VoIP extends the reach of the main office using your existing Intranet. Remote offices and telecommuters can avoid long-distance charges while enjoying high quality voice over your Intranet rather than the PSTN. This non-proprietary adjunct gateway connects to an available analog CO port on an existing telephony system to provide Voice-over-IP connectivity to other VoIP enabled devices. An analog phone can also be used connected directly to the Express VoIP gateway giving a remote site or home office simple VoIP connectivity right to the main office. This allows telecommuters to avoid the hassle of adding up all business related long distance charges by accessing the main office’s system to place outbound long distance calls instead.
Express Installation
Installation and administration of Express VoIP is very simple. Connect the Express VoIP to your system’s analog CO ports via the Express VoIP SLT ports, and connect the Express VoIP to your network via the Ethernet port. All administration is easily performed through a web browser. This eliminates complicated programming or the constant running back and forth between the desk and the phone room.
Highlights
- Provides VoIP connectivity for most KSU/PBX systems
- Eliminates long-distance charges between remote offices
- Expands existing telephony system functionality
- Dial internal extensions between remote sites
- Maximizes existing data connection value
- Web-based administration makes set-up simple
Vodavi Integrations
- Express VoIP integrates with all Vodavi phone systems.

Optional ChalkTalk for K-12 Schools
Whether you’re a teacher, administrator, support staff, student or parent, communication with your school is critical. Vodavi’s ChalkTalkSM is specifically designed to manage communications in a school environment easily and affordably.
What Is ChalkTalk?
ChalkTalk is an automated information system for elementary, secondary and high schools. The ChalkTalk System includes Vodavi’s powerful PathFinder Voice Processing system with added features designed specifically for schools.
How ChalkTalk Works
By automating the flow of information, ChalkTalk gets information to the people who need it most, quickly and efficiently, 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. ChalkTalk includes the features that schools need, such as homework hotlines, outbound calling for absentee students and information lines for extracurricular activities. ChalkTalk helps accomplish that important goal of communicating quickly and accurately.
Why ChalkTalk?
ChalkTalk was designedfor K-12 schools using Vodavi’s award-winning PathFinder Voice Processing System. Running on Windows NT, PathFinder provides a powerful foundation for the ChalkTalk System, which offers the speed and capacity to support future expansion, so as your needs grow, ChalkTalk can be updated quickly and affordably. ChalkTalk is designed and manufactured by Vodavi Communications Systems. Vodavi is one of the top ten providers of telephone systems in the U.S., with over 1 million systems and 15 million telephones installed worldwide. Vodavi only sells ChalkTalk through authorized dealers who are trained in the installation and maintenance of ChalkTalk, assuring that you receive professional support.
Simple to Use
ChalkTalk is easy to use and maintain. It is designed on a Windows NT platform and can be managed from any computer in your network. This gives the school the convenience of allowing multiple people to use the system at the same time. For example, the principal can send an informational message to parents while an administrator activates the substitute teacher list.
On installation, a master list of names and numbers is entered into the ChalkTalk database through user-friendly, menu-driven prompts. From this master list, multiple outbound calling groups can be created by simply clicking on the name and transferring it to the new group. For example, you can create separate calling groups for students, teacher, and administrators. Once a group is created, you can save it and use it again as needed.
What ChalkTalk Can Accomplish For Your School
Contact parents of absentee studentsThis tool saves the school office staff valuable time and effort by eliminating repeat phone calls. Automated outbound calling notifies parents of their child’s absence and can inquire about the reason for the absence. Parents can leave a voice message responding to the inquiry, which the school staff can later review. ChalkTalk automatically redials non-answered and busy numbers until the call is received.
Locate and schedule substitute teachers
Save the school’s staff valuable time by automating the daily task of finding substitute teachers. Just select the group list for the substitute teachers you need and let ChalkTalk call the possible candidates. Once an interested teacher is found, ChalkTalk asks for a confirmation of acceptance, such as a teacher ID or a voice mail message. ChalkTalk will continue calling until all the positions are full. So, if you need three Math teachers, ChalkTalk will continue calling until three Math teachers accept the assignment.ChalkTalk also has the ability to run multiple lists at the same time. If you need a History teacher and an English teacher on the same day, you can run both groups at the same time.
Notify employees and students of school closings or emergencies
ChalkTalkis ideal for unscheduled school closings. Instead of relyingon word of mouth to get the message out, ChalkTalk automatically calls each student and faculty member with an official message announcing the closing.
Notify students and parents of important school information.
Forget the hassle of photocopying and distributing important notices, such as parent teacher conferences, school board meetings and report card day. ChalkTalk can send a pre-recorded message to everyone that needs the information. You can be sure the message was received by requesting a unique confirmation from recipients, such as a student ID number. ChalkTalk then matches the response with the database information to confirm that the message was received.
Homework hotline.
Perfect for students who are absent or who routinely “forget” the details of a homework assignment. Students and parents can access the homework hotline for the latest assignments by entering a unique class ID. Each class is given a class ID number. Once the ID is entered correctly, the caller hears the most current assignment information. Updating the assignments is as easy as recording a message and can be done by the teacher from any telephone, anywhere.
Student activity hotlines
A 24-hour hotline for student sporting events, clubs and after-school activities. No more fielding calls for the time of today’s basketball game or girl scout meeting when automated messaging is set up for student activities. Activity information can be kept accurate and complete by allowing the activity leader to personally update their own group information. Updating the hotline is simple and can be done from any telephone, anywhere.
Question and Answer Session via voice mail
Want parent feedback on a current issue? Need teacher input on a new program? With today’s busy lifestyles, it’s difficult to schedule group meeting to gather information. ChalkTalk allows teachers and parents to express ideas at their convenience via the telephone. ChalkTalk offers a question and answer session that can ask up to 99 questions via the telephone and record the answers for later review.
Advanced Voice Mail
Voice mail helps your staff effectively manage communications. Its powerful auto attendant with an unlimited number of menus leads callers to the information or extension they need without going through a live operator. An unlimited number of mailboxes allows everyone on the system to have their own voice mail box with sophisticated features like call screening, multiple greetings, message forwarding, personal distribution lists and much more!

Optional DCC and DME
Desktop Call Control (DCC)
Desktop call control is a powerful feature that enables users to interact with an incoming call from their desktop PC prior to answering the call. Callers must first identify themselves by stating their name or entering their telephone number, whichever the user prefers. Users then have a varitety of options to choose from in handling the call:
- Accept the call
- Send to voicemail
- Hold the call
- Transfer the call
Additionally, specific call handling rules can be set up to differentiate high- priority calls from low-priority calls and route them accordingly, without user intervention. For example, a high-priority call can be transferred to a cellular phone and a low-priority call to voice mail, automatically. If a user is engaged on a call and a higher-priority call comes in, DCC will inform the user so they may end their current call in favor of the priority one. Conversely, if a user is on a high-priority call and sees a low-priority call come in, they can transfer the call to voicemail or another station from their desktop without interrupting their call in process. Desktop call control can also be used to alert remote PC users of voicemail messages waiting.
Desktop Mailbox Editing (DME)
Desktop mailbox editing is an administrative feature that allows users with a sound card and microphone to customize their signature and mailbox greetings from the desktop. This enables subscribers with special scheduling requirements to easily customize their mailbox greetings accordingly. As many as nine time-sensitive greetings can be recorded. The desktop mailbox editor also allows the user to have desktop control of:
- Name and password
- Notification settings – the user can choose to know time-of-day, day-of-week, urgent, mailbox ID or e-mail address of message sender
- E-mail contacts and responses – the contacts database stores a user’s personal list of names, telephone numbers, and e-mail addresses. This list, when maintained by the user, will enable the user to reply to a voice mail message by auto-dialing the contact directly or sending a pre-written e-mail response. Yes, with PathFinder 9.0, you can listen to a voice mail message and reply with an e-mail message. To automatically dial a party in response to a voice message, simply dial "60" while listening to their message. To send an e-mail response, dial "XX" then choose from one of the nine pre-written e-mail responses
Optional Text-to-Speech e-mail Reading
Read and Reply to Your e-mail Over the Phone!
Perfect for the traveling business person, PathFinder can be called upon to read e-mails over the telephone. Using a synthesized voice, the PathFinder first reads where, when and who the e-mail came from, then proceeds to read the body of the e-mail. Users can choose to reply to the e-mail with a pre-written response, or they can have the PathFinder look up the sender’s phone number and automatically dial it to initiate a voice response.
Optional Onelook Unified Messaging
Receive your voice mail and fax mail in the same inbox as your e-mail!
Unified messaging allows all messages, voice, e-mail, and faxes, to be received in one convenient location, a user’s e-mail inbox. PathFinder uses POP3 and IMAP4, which are open standards that allow integration with several e-mail applications, such as Microsoft Outlook and Outlook Express
